"High in Rwanda’s Western Province, smallholder farmers from the Abadatezuka Cooperative deliver ripe coffee cherries to the Cyato Washing Station, located in the Cyato sector of Nyamasheke District. The station, established in 2017, sits at 1,850m above sea level, with farms reaching up to 2,200m in elevation — ideal conditions for slow coffee maturation and flavour development.

Cherries arrive from the surrounding hills of Kivoga, Kageyo, Rusumo, Gatare, and Nsinduka, where native honeybees pollinate the coffee trees in and around the Nyungwe Forest. This bee-assisted pollination, along with fertile black humus and sandy soils, and a cool, lake-influenced climate from nearby Lake Kivu, all shape this coffee’s distinct character. No synthetic fertilisers or pesticides are used — just nature doing its thing."
