"The Sodu washing station, located 2.5km from Hara Adama in Guji's Oromia district of Ethiopia, receives daily coffee deliveries from local farmers. These coffees are purchased as cherries and processed at the station. In Ethiopia, coffee is typically grown on small plots by farmers who also cultivate other crops. Most smallholders bring their coffee cherries to nearby washing stations or central processing units, where the cherries are sorted, weighed, and either paid for or given a receipt. The washing stations then process the coffee, which in this case is naturally processed. Cherries are blended into day lots, making it difficult to trace specific coffees back to individual farmers. Despite this, efforts are made to source coffee from the same washing stations each year through export partners and their connections with mills and stations. Farmers in this region typically do not use fertilizers or pesticides in their coffee production due to lack of access."
