Laureano Janamejoy is an extremely dedicated producer.
Weather and soil conditions at Finca La Peña are ideal for specialty coffee production and result in strong, healthy coffee plants. Laureano and his Family are proud to produce excellent coffee that we can enjoy and to do so in a way that honours the environment and protect their community & lands.
Laureano and his family selectively handpick ripe, red cherries.
They ferment the selected cherry for 3 days. Then, they pulp the cherry and lay parchment and remaining mucilage to dry in a parabolic dryer.
The family rakes drying parchment frequently to ensure even drying.
It takes approximately 15 days for parchment to dry.
Nariño has long been consumed by armed conflict that isolated communities from external trade. Coffee has provided a way to increase incomes and improved livelihoods. Coffee production has enabled Laureano and his community to improve their livelihoods while maintain customs and preserving their land.
