Winter Blend 2012

Our seasonal blends evolve according to what’s
freshly harvested. This winter’s blend comprises:

40% Ethiopia HAWISA

40% Brazil LARANJAL

20% Thailand LA MAI

People have been adoring the Autumn Blend so I’ve been on a mission to approximate it as closely as possible with our Winter Blend. With our Colombia Los Naranjos running out, I was very pleased to discover that our Ethiopian Hawisa shared many similarities to it in milk: sweet, punchy with some savoury elements and citrus fruit acidity. Undoubtedly, they are different coffees, but suit the same role in these seasonal blends.

Winter also sees the return of our awesome Thailand La Mai coffee to our blend. This is a fantastic blending coffee – it has a rounded sweetness to add to the blend, and the acidity of the other coffees really lifts the Thai.

The resulting blend is decidedly a winner!

Sweetness:

If Autumn was butterscotch, Winter is more like toffee & dark caramel.

Acidity:

Less overtly fruity; subtly plum-like with lemon zest.

Body:

Full and rounded; concentrated down the centre of the tongue.

Aftertaste:

Finishes fairly quickly, with lingering hints cocoa and licorice.

Suitable for:

Any method; designed for milk-based espresso, but will be great without milk as well as for brewed coffee.

Winter Blend will be a pretty short-term offering – until August (when we have lots of exciting Central American coffees to swap in). Available here.
